Write a short story set entirely on a sweltering city subway in the middle of a summer afternoon. What does the heat do to your characters and the mood of the story?
What is the most remarkable memory of summer that you have? What made it so memorable?
Imagine the sort of summer job one of your characters would have. Write about the job and why your character is working there. In the story show how he or she feels about it and how it affects his or her personality.
Write a one-page short story using one, some or all of the following words: "sunburn", "barbecue", "airplane", "dragonfly", "movie" and "marshmallow."
One of your characters takes a a summer vacation, bringing only a backpack filled with a flashlight, a photo album, an unfamiliar key and three days' worth of clothes. Write about the vacation your character ends up having. Where does your character go? What happens to him or her while on the trip?
